Furniture Made for a Lifetime

Custom furniture designed and built by hand in Portland, Oregon. Each piece is created individually, using carefully selected hardwoods and time-honored joinery, with an emphasis on proportion, craftsmanship, and longevity.

COMMISSIONED FURNITURE

Furniture designed around you.

Line & Mortise creates one-of-a-kind furniture for the home, from dining tables and beds to desks, casework, and other individually commissioned pieces. Each project begins with a conversation about how the piece will be used, the space it will inhabit, and what you want it to become.

From proportion and material selection to joinery and finish, every detail is considered as part of the whole.

Craftsmanship extends beyond what you can see.

I believe furniture should be built with the same care in the places you never see as in the places you do.

Joinery is chosen because it is appropriate for the piece—not because it is faster. Wood movement is respected. Materials are selected for their structural qualities as carefully as for their appearance.

I also choose natural, low-toxicity wood finishes whenever appropriate, favoring finishes that preserve the character of the wood while creating a surface I am comfortable bringing into my own home.

Every decision—from the joinery beneath the surface to the finish you touch—is made with longevity, craftsmanship, and responsible material choices in mind.

If there's a right way to build something and an easier way, I choose the right way.

BUILT WITH INTEGRITY

MADE TO ENDURE

Furniture should become more valuable to you with time.

Solid hardwood. Traditional joinery. Repairable construction. Timeless proportions.

I design furniture with longevity in mind—from the way components are joined to the way the piece can be maintained and repaired decades from now.

Scratches, wear, and patina will eventually become part of its history. The structure beneath them should remain.

My goal isn't simply to build something beautiful when it leaves my shop. It's to build something worth keeping.
